Kustom PCs LAN Party events are here to put some random fun back into gaming. It’s not all about tournaments or cash prizes, but lots of big silly games that put a smile on your face. Making the ‘party’ in the name more relevant than most, if you will.
Events are held periodically in our shop premises, it’s a BYOC* format and LAN 14 is our Christmas (LAN) Party, held over a full Sunday. Making gaming truly exciting and social, Kustom LAN days throw in the widest mix of gaming genres and provides an environment where it's all about playing for fun and having a giggle.
While we wait for the last minute arrivals, our intro game will be 'Hockey?' - a game so insane it's simply genius and a heap of fun. Control your hockey stick with the mouse and skate with the WASD keys. Forget team strategy - everyone just goes for the puck.
Required COD 4 Modern Warfare - this mod transforms the game into a paintball tournament with new levels, guns and scenarios. It's a fantastic alternative FPS game with a new style of gun dynamics to learn.
NEXT EVENT :
Sunday 18th December 2011 Sign up by joining the forums and register your intentions in This Forum Thread
Location : Kustom PCs, 40 Fort Street, Ayr, Scotland, KA7 1DE. Cost : £10 for day entry. Times : Set up from 9am. Event runs 9.50am-10.30pm LAN Participants : 24
Using what used to be our system build workshop, the LAN party events have a nice space to spread out into with support for up to 24 participants. Chairs, network cables and bench spaces are provided. Please bring your own PC, screen, peripherals and power cables though ! We have a few spare monitors available for loan for those who unable to transport their own.
While our venue may have a slightly vintage appearance, if we deck it out with enough lighting it starts to look quite cool. Come evening time, Armagetron is quite an experience - it borders on becoming a LAN disco, but it seems fitting and adds to the gameplay. Putting the party, back in LAN Party, if you like. Warning : Strobe / flash lighting is used during the event.
How to get the games?
We try to use as many freely available games as possible, but some are commercial so you will need a purchased license already. For games that are mods of an existing commercial game, that game is noted in the 'Needs' box.
Music Requests
Fitting background tunes is one of the points that gives Kustom LAN an exciting atmosphere - FPS games are played to rock music, Trackmania has fast D&B, Armagetron has electro and chiptune, Flatout 2 is all... well, if 'hillbilly' was a genre, that's what it would be.
It's great fun. Since we'll be playing the Fortress and CTF modes this time, here's a quick snip of some Capture the Flag play.
What shall I bring?
It's a BYOC* event. So remember your screen, base unit, power cables, keyboard, mouse, headphones and mouse mat. 2 power sockets and an Ethernet cable are provided at the event. Feel free to bring your own food / drink. Snacks are available in the shop downstairs and there's plenty of takeaways nearby for lunchtime and dinner.
*BYOC?
*BYOC stands for 'Bring Your Own Computer'. But has also become relevant to lunchtime - a variety of sandwiches are provided at the event, but not cheese because Graeme is scared of cheese. As a result, BYOC also is now an acronym for 'Bring Your Own Cheese Sandwiches'. cheese, bring your own.
Try to beat Nanaki in the time attack with some fast paced racing around roller coaster style tracks. We'll run a short session of 3 tracks at 7 minutes each.
Gun Game pits terrorists and counter terrorists against each other in a small map, all starting with a basic weapon. Killing enemies ranks up your weapon, with the winner the player who reaches the top weapon first.
A worms style game, but with hedgehogs (herp a derp). Cute and fun, and we all remember there's nothing more satisfying than a well placed bazooka shot that drops your opponent in the drink.
Ninja Robots do battle in this beautiful flying / killing game. We'll play a free for all deathmatch followed by 'Ninja! Ninja! Ninja! Robozilla!' which is a battle of everyone versus one massive player.
The Kustom LAN Favourite. Following a quick introduction to 'short tails' we'll pit opposing teams into games of Fortress and then feature some lightcycle sumo.
You loved it at our RTS theme night, so Dawn of War makes a return to LAN 14 for some RTS based battle action. With multiple game instances running and rotating players to spice things up. And definitely no haxxing.
As players are defeated in Dawn of War, jump onto the Golf server - this is a wonderful first person golf game that takes... some perseverance to master.
Each team is given 11 minutes to reinforce their base with blocks, followed by an attack session where the objective is to break through each opponents base and steal their flag.
For a new twist, and since you've got all too clever on the CS maps, we're moving our Prophunt game to Team Fortress 2 (since the game is free play now anyway). One team hide as objects on the map, the other time have to seek them out before the time runs out.
Destruction Derby only this time for maximum laughs. Includes our famous 'Chilli Con Carnage' scenario, which usually involves a group of 'chilli' cars attacking a truck.
